About this role

Company Description Sage AI Labs builds the checkout layer that allows AI agents and platforms to complete purchases directly on merchants’ sites without requiring technical integration. Its consumer shopping app, GOLD, operates this technology in production, processing thousands of end-to-end orders and validating the infrastructure at scale. Founded by Sebastian Thrun (Google X, Waymo, Udacity), the company is headquartered in San Francisco. The team includes professionals from Google, Amazon, Lyft, BeReal, and leading commerce companies such as Revolve and Net-a-Porter. Sage AI Labs focuses on advancing agentic commerce and partnering with organizations that are building in this space.

Role Description The Senior Software Engineer will design, build, and maintain backend services that power Sage AI Labs’ checkout infrastructure and consumer applications. This full-time remote role includes architecting scalable systems, writing high-quality code, reviewing peers’ work, and improving performance and reliability across production services. The engineer will collaborate closely with product, data, and machine learning teams to integrate new features, refine APIs, and ensure secure, resilient transaction flows. Day-to-day responsibilities also include troubleshooting issues, optimizing deployment pipelines, contributing to technical documentation, and mentoring other engineers. The role involves participating in technical discussions, proposing solutions, and helping shape the long-term engineering roadmap.
